Gambas, giant prawns, head-on shrimp…

In Belgium known as Gambas, in Holland as giant prawns of head on shrimp… In any case in terms of quality the absolute top. The prawns are freshly frozen and you can immediately see the high quality. The size is also simple, just pieces per box. It’s as easy as that.

The gambas or giant prawns are classically grilled, eg the well known gambas a la plancha, loved by almost everyone.

The ‘almost everyone’ has 2 reasons: There is still a vein, which is a good as empty, because the prawns are limitedly feeded before the harvest. Moreover some people are not so skilled in removing the shell.
Luckily there are a few solutions:

  1. Do you prefer a prawn where the vein is removed, than you can choose the easy peel version. The back is slightly cut to remove the vein. This way you keep the full taste of the shrimp.
  2. Also those who fear removing the skin are considered: they can fully enjoy the body peeled shrimp. The tasteful tales are peeled and deveined, but the prawn remains complete. Also the last tail piece is unpeeled. It really couldn’t be easier, while the product still looks very pretty on the plate.
